Make Problem-Solving a Part of Daily Life: Present real-life scenarios where critical thinking is needed. This could be as simple as asking them to help find the fastest route to a destination or more complex as discussing the potential outcomes of a current event.
Read Together: Reading helps improve vocabulary and language skills and stimulates imagination and critical thinking. Discuss the material with your child, ask open-ended questions, and encourage them to do the same.
Encourage Play and Creativity: Games, puzzles, and creative activities can all help foster critical thinking. These types of activities require children to strategize, make decisions, and think creatively.
Practice Reflective Thinking: Encourage your child to reflect on their experiences and learn from them. This could involve discussing what went well or what could have been done differently in a given situation.

On long car trips, my son and I listened to Story of the World by Susan Wise Bauer. It is an integrated narrative approach to world history. He still remembers the ancient history with Sumerians and tales from the Middle Ages of Grendel, an English fictional character. There is something about a well-told story that inspires and changes you.
Science
Do you like science? Our small group would work on many science projects that encourage hands-on discovery. This can be starting seeds from scratch or learning types of animals from frequent zoo trips. I would encourage my son to pick a favorite animal on each trip. When we got home, we would research its habits and place in the food chain.
Technology
If you like technology, you fix broken desktops or take them apart and learn about the broken pieces. Have you ever opened a hard drive? Here is a list of projects you can do to help your child. As you can see from the list, the possibilities are boundless.
